-
Jenson Button is the 2009 Formula 1 champion, as the Brawn-Mercedes driver edged RBR-Renault's Sebastian Vettel 95-84 in the final standings.
Rubens Barrichello, Mark Webber, and Lewis Hamilton rounded out the Top 5 of the 2009 drivers championship. Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen ended up in sixth place in the Formula 1 standings, one point back of Hamilton.
Brawn-Mercedes also cruised to a win in the constructors championship, holding a 172-153.5 advantage on RBR-Renault in those final standings. McLaren-Mercedes was third with 71 points on the season, while Ferrari had 70 points.
Button won six races en route to the championship, taking the checkered flag in six of the first seven events on the schedule. Vettel finished in first place four times in 2009, which included a victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The 2010 Formula 1 season is set to get underway in the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14.
